Ornithologists & nature lovers
For Ornithologists & nature lovers
The EU bird sanctuary Dümmer Lowland and the Diepholz Moor Lowland offer ornithologists and nature observers a variety of interesting, sometimes very rare, bird species.
Particularly noteworthy is the annual resting place of the cranes in the Diepholz Moor lowlands.
The renaturalized moors, surrounded by agricultural land (primarily corn cultivation), represent a new, large resting area in Lower Saxony. In mild winters, small groups of cranes begin to overwinter.
Modern, new observation towers allow you to pursue your work or hobby regardless of the weather. Various nature trails provide information about the Dümmer Lowland natural area. The Dümmer Lake Nature Conservation Station houses a permanent exhibition that provides information about the formation of the Dümmer Lowland, its significance for nature and species conservation, and projects of the NLWKN (Lower Saxony State Office for Water Management, Coastal and Nature Conservation). Specialists at the nature conservation station regularly offer excursions on various topics.
